Location Information and Directions

The following directions are intended to help you choose an area and provide you with an idea of the location. If you are drawn, you will receive a map and/or directions along with instructions from the land owner/manager.

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Land:

WDFW Cowlitz Wildlife Area (GMU 505) - South of Highway 12 near Morton, off Peterman Hill Road, the entry point is at the 1500 road. No ATV’s are allowed.

WDFW Scatter Creek Puget Sound (Skookumchuck) Wildlife Area (GMU 667) - 2 miles South of Tenino, turn east on 184th Ave SE. Follow the road to Skookumchuck Road. Stay right and proceed 6 miles to Johnson Creek Road. The gate is on the right approximately 100 yards past Johnson Creek Road under the BPA power lines. Please note: The road enters an agriculture field also used as a pheasant release site. This road is less than one mile long. Elk occasionally frequent the area.

WDFW L.T. Murray Wildlife Area - North Riggs Canyon (GMU 340) - From I-90 take Thorp Exit 101. Turn south on Thorp Hwy - go 2 miles to Cove Rd - follow Cove Rd to Robinson Canyon Rd - turn right follow Robinson Canyon Rd to the elk fence where you enter WDFW land. Follow the first road to the left to the top of the hill approximately 3 miles. Turn left go .5 miles to the “Y” in the road. Stay to the right and follow the road 1.5 miles to the end.

WDFW Oak Creek Wildlife Area - Cougar Canyon (GMU 360) - From headquarters office, take Bethel Ridge road to Cougar Canyon to the signed area on the right.

WDFW Chesaw Wildlife Area (GMU 204) – East from Oroville approximately 18 miles on the Oroville-Toroda Creek road, left on Byers Road approximately ½ mile, left into the Wildlife Area residence driveway and proceed past the house and through the gate. The Hunter must stay on this road and it ends at the north boundary of the Wildlife Area (approximately 3 miles). White-tailed and mule deer present in the area. One non-hunting person in addition to the Hunting Companion is allowed to help.

WDFW Asotin Creek Wildlife Area - North Fork of Asotin Creek - Lick Creek - (GMU 175) - From the town of Asotin which is located approximately 5 miles South of Clarkston. Turn right on Asotin Creek Road just before entering Asotin. Travel up Asotin Creek Road. Stay to the right at the intersection of Cloverland Road and continue traveling up Asotin Creek. At the intersection of Lick Fork Road and South Fork Road, turn right and travel up Lick Creek Road for approximately 1 mile. The parking area is the pull off located on the left and is 15 miles up Asotin Creek from Asotin.

Capitol State Forest - DC Line Road (GMU 663) - Located in the Capitol Forest between Porter and Oakville opposite of State Route 12 – Mile Post 31. Approximately 4 miles of road accessing good views of both timber and cut over areas. Be extremely cautious. Logging is occurring on this road and there could be brush pickers.

Green Mountain State Forest - 6 Road and 5 Road (GMU 627) - Go northwest from Bremerton and take Seabeck Highway to Holly Road. Take Holly Road about 2 miles (just past Wildcat Trailhead) and turn left on Rock Quarry Road. Go through county gate stay to the left and follow about .2 miles to DNR gate. This is the GM 4 road. Follow this road about 3 miles and past three trail crossings to intersection of GM 6 road. The ADA hunting area starts here. Logging operations may be occurring, and there are other recreation users in the area, so be sure of your shot. No ORV’s are allowed on the roads. To access the GM – 5 Road: Continue on the GM 6 road to the intersection of the GM 5 road (approximately 1.5 miles). Turn left and follow to the end. No entry into the Bremerton Watershed area.

Sherwood Forest (GMU 633) - From Shelton at the junction of Front Street and Highway 3 – follow Highway 3 north for 12.2 miles. There is a large turnout with two orange gates (2 tenths of a mile past Mile Post 15). The gate to the left is the road access gate. Go through the orange gate and follow for 1.4 miles to the first intersection. Stay right and follow 1 mile to the new gate. The access area for hunting begins at the blue DNR gate.

Hood Canal State Forest (GMU 621) - No overnight camping. From Highway 101 and Jorsted Creek Road (Forest Service 24 Road) and follow 2.1 miles to the junction of FS 2480 and FS 24 Roads. Turn left onto FS24 and follow for 3.6 miles. Turn left off FS 24 to the gate. There are several large thinning units behind the gate.

Elbe Hills (GMU 654) - No overnight camping behind the gate. No ATV’s allowed. From Elbe continue East toward Ashford on highway 706 for 6.1 miles. Turn left onto 278th Ave. East and follow .6 miles to the end of the county road. Continue left for 2 miles. Stay left for 1.8 miles to Beaver Creek Trailhead. The gate is around a sharp left hand turn (not visible from the main road). There is approximately 6.25 miles to explore behind the gate.

Tahoma State Forest (GMU 510) -  No ATV’s allowed. From Elbe continue East toward Ashford on highway 706 for approximately 7 miles, turn right on Kernahan road, follow the road for 1.4 miles continuing past Osborn and Skate Creek roads, then veer right onto Forest Service 85 road, go 1.4 miles and turn right toward Catt Creek road and proceed 2.5 miles staying to the right to the intersection of the 1 and 2 roads.  Continue 2.3 miles to the 24 road to the gate.

Studebaker (GMU 550) - From I-5, take Woodland exit and go east about 11 miles to Studebaker Road. No overnight camping. No ATVs allowed. Gate is yellow and blue.

Markworth State Forest West (GMU 460) - I-90 to Preston (Exit #22) then North to Fall City pass Twin Rivers Golf Course - Cross bridge (Snoqualmie River) and turn left on Highway 203 to Carnation. Go six miles (through Carnation) and go three more miles and turn right on Stillwater Hill Road. Stay to the right on rock road and veer to the right on Stossel Creek Way. Go 1 mile veer right again to enter Markworth State Forest. At the four-way, continue north approximately 2.5 miles to the gate on the left of Stossel Creek Road (ST 2000). All roads beyond the gate are open to hunting

Markworth State Forest East (GMU 460) - I-90 to Preston (Exit #22) then north to Fall City pass Twin Rivers Golf Course - Cross bridge (Snoqualmie River) and turn left on Highway 203 to Carnation. Go six miles (through Carnation) and go three more miles and turn right on Stillwater Hill Road. Stay to the right on rock road and veer to the right on Stossel Creek Way. Go 1 mile veer right again to enter Markworth State Forest. At the four-way continue north approximately 2 miles to the gate on the right of Stossel Creek Road (ST 5000). All roads beyond the gate are open to hunting. Logging activity present until October 31.

Cassidy Creek - PA-L-1000 Road (GMU 621) - From Sequim on Highway 101 travel 2.1 miles west to Hooker Rd. Turn left and travel .3 miles to Atterbury Rd. Turn right and travel 2.1 miles to Cassidy Rd. Turn left and travel 1.1 miles to the gate.

Rose Hill - 4700 Road (GMU 121) - From Spokane take US 395 to Loon Lake, then west on SR 292 to Springdale, turn right onto SR 231, continue west for about a mile, then turn left onto the Springdale Hunters Road for about 10 miles. The entrance to 4700 Road is on the right. There are 4 miles of road accessing a number of cut over areas. ATVs allowed.

Sherry Divide - S 2000 Road (GMU 117) - From Colville take SR 20 east for 18.3 miles, turn right on Sherry Creek Road for 1.6 miles. The S 2000 Road is on the left. The S 2000 Road is a 3-mile loop accessing both cut over areas and standing timber. ATVs allowed.

Ahtanum State Forest – C-1500 Road (GMU 368) – From Yakima, travel west on Ahtanum road to Tampico. At Tampico go west on North Fork Ahtanum Road for 3 miles. Turn right on A-5000 road for 2.2 miles. Follow the road to A-5500 and turn left on the C-1000 road. Follow the C-1000 road for approximately 3 miles. Just past the cattle guard, turn left on C-1500 for approximately ½ mile to the gate. No camping behind the gate. Several camp grounds are availabe outside the gate. No ATV’s allowed.

Ahtanum State Forest – A-2050 Road (GMU 368) – From Yakima, travel west on Ahtanum road to Tampico. At Tampico, go west on North Fork Ahtanum Road for 8 miles. At the intersection of the A-2000 and A-3000 road turn left on the A-2000 road for 2.3 miles. Then turn left on the A-2050 road for approximately ¼ mile to the gate. No camping behind the gate. Several camp grounds are availabe outside the gate. No ATV’s allowed.

Private Timber Lands:

Hancock Forest Management Klickitat Timberland (GMU 578) - The two areas are at Glenwood, sixteen miles east of Troutlake Washington. North Plateau - and Glenwood. Take I-5 south north of Vancouver - take the I-205 Exit (south) over the Columbia River (or stay on the Washington side) - Take I-84 east to Hood River (45 miles) go north on the toll bridge to Washington- Go left (west) on Hwy 14 (1.5 miles) turn right on Hwy 141A up the hill (1.5 miles) turn left on Hwy 141. Head north about 16 miles past Husum, BZ Corner and a sign to Glenwood - Just past MP 20 (Warner Rd) go right, follow left and up the hill. Stay on this road for 13 miles - turn left on Draper Springs Road and all the way to the end to the office.

Hancock Forest Management – Cathlamet (GMU 506) The hunt area is from KM summit to the Brookfield Dock. The access point is at gate 63 on the Quigley road. This gate is located 12 ½ miles west of Cathlamet near KM summit. From Longview, proceed west along State Route 4 approximately 22 miles to the Hancock Forest Management Office, 273 State Route 4, where keys and maps will be issued to those drawn.

Western Pacific Timber – Grayback (GMU 388) – 15 miles west of Goldendale just north of the Glenwood Highway. Gate is located on Grayback road. Vehicles must stay on established roads. Hunting companion may fill their tag as well.

US Forest Service:

Wenatchee National Forest Check with the US Forest Service Ranger District for the type of vehicle allowed behind the gates. Maps of USFS may be purchased from any USFS Office and will provide more detail of the area. Camping is available outside the gate. The hunting companion may fill his or her own tag. Two non-hunting persons are allowed to assist the hunter with a disability.

• Nile (GMU 352) - North of Naches on SR 410 proceed approximately 9 miles to the Nile Road. Turn left and follow about 2.5 miles to USFS Road 1600, which enters on the left. Stay on main line 1600 about 12 miles to Road 1608. Turn left on 1608 go 100 yards to the gate.

• Rim (GMU 352) - from the junction of Hwy 12 and 410 just west of Naches, travel approximately 24.8 miles west on Hwy 410. Turn left on Forest Road 1709 - follow road 1709 across the bridge and straight up the hill approximately 0.7 miles to the junction with 1709-400 on the right.

Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest Wenatchee River Ranger District

Coulter Creek (GMU 251) Mission – West of Leavenworth on Highway 2 proceed 18 miles and turn left on Coulter Creek Road #6930 across from Nason Creek Rest Area near milepost 82. This is a gated road system of approximately 17 miles which accesses private timber company and National Forest lands under a road use cost share agreement. Respect private property. Street legal motorcycles are permitted on this road system. Access may be denied during high fire danger or logging operations.

Butch Creek Area – located in Washington (GMU 113) - From Priest River, Idaho go North on State Highway 57. At approximately 8.6 miles take a left on the Bearpaw road # 305. Proceed on the Bearpaw road, to the state line, approximately 6.2 miles, where you will enter back into Washington. At approximately 1 mile from the state line, turn left on Forest Service road #1084. Proceed approximately .7 mile to the Butch Creek road #1142 and you will see the Gate on the designated ADA hunting road.

Colville National Forest – Newport-Sullivan Lake Ranger Districts

Snyder Hill (GMU 113 – From Newport Washington, take State Hwy 20 north to Tiger. Continue north on State Hwy 31 toward Ione. Just south of Ione, make a right onto the Sullivan Lake Road (County Road 9345), cross the Pen Oreille River and continue up towards Sullivan Lake. The Snyder Hill Road (FR 3300050) is a left hand turn off the Sullivan Lake Road about 1 mile east of the Ione bridge.
