SATURDAY, AUGUST 27:
CALL TO ORDER:
Chair Ozment called the work session to order
at 9:00 a.m.
Commissioners provided biographical
history, work history, interests, and philosophies.
ELLIOT MARKS:
Elliot Marks, Governor's Executive Policy Advisor,
briefed Commissioners on Governor Gregoire's
vision of fish, wildlife, and Washington Department
of Fish and Wildlife's (WDFW) public lands management.
Other comments and questions centered on the
Governor's Government Management Accountability
and Performance implementation as applied to
WDFW.
BILL FRYMIRE:
Bill Frymire, Assistant Attorney General, presented
Commissioners material on the Commission's history,
governing statutes, and mandates.
DAY-TO-DAY COMMISSION FUNCTION:
Discussion continued on the above issues, and
expanded to issues of Commissioners' contact
with stakeholders, potential for conflict of
interest, and ethics issues. Also discussed
with individual Commissioner expenses.
COMMISSION SUBCOMMITTEES:
Commission subcommittees were discussed, including
the possible need for additional committees.
Chair Ozment recessed the work
session at 5:00 p.m.
SUNDAY, AUGUST 28:
Chair Ozment called the work session
back to order at 9:00 a.m.
COMMISSION BUDGET:
Discussed were the Commission budget, personnel
under the Commission budget, and the need for
reports of budget status.
DISCUSSION:
General discussion centered on the Commission's
subcommittees: (1) possibility of redirecting
the subcommittees' areas of responsibility;
(2) potential for additional subcommittees (i.e.,
lands, co-management, science, enforcement,
invasive species, and (3) potential for existing
committees to absorb some duties.
Commissioner Solomon replaced
Commissioner Shiosaki as chair of the Fish Subcommittee,
and Commissioner Gutzwiler replaced Commissioner
Shiosaki as chair of the Wildlife Subcommittee.
Chair Ozment adjourned the work
session at 12:00 p.m.
