Gutzwiler called the meeting to order at 8:30
a.m.
LOWER
COLUMBIA RIVER SALMON FISHERY (LCRSF) STAKEHOLDER
PROCESS - UPDATE AND DISCUSSION:
Commissioners and Department staff discussed recent
LCRSF stakeholder group process developments.
On its August 1, 2008, Conference Call, the Commission
will consider potential responses to recent correspondence
received on this subject following Oregon's recommended
process.
GOVERNOR'S
LETTER TO THE COMMISSION ON FISHERIES ISSUES -
DISCUSSION:
Commissioners and Department staff discussed Governor
Gregoire's letter regarding salmon fishery challenges
and her request that the Commission provide a
status report and recommendations by January 1,
2009.
The
Department will provide a briefing on selective
fisheries at the Commission's October 3-4, 2008,
meeting in Ellensburg.*
* During its September 5-6, 2008, meeting, the
Commission voted to hold its October 3-4, 2008,
meeting in Olympia in response to the Governor's
directive for state agencies to reduce travel
and expenditures.
PLANS
FOR JOINT MEETING WITH THE NORTHWEST INDIAN FISHERIES
COMMISSION (NWIFC) - DISCUSSION:
The Commission and Department staff discussed
plans and agenda items for the August 7, 2008,
joint meeting with the NWIFC in Lynnwood.
GENERAL
DISCUSSION:
Topics of discussion included: Radio-collard wolves;
and potential dates for joint meeting with the
Conservation Commission in September.
