MEETING MINUTES

FISH AND WILDLIFE COMMISSION
SPECIAL MEETING via CONFERENCE CALL

December 19, 2008 - 8:30 a.m.

Chair Gutzwiler called the meeting to order at 8:32 a.m.

LAND TRANSACTION – DECISION:

Dan Budd presented for approval the proposed acquisition of a 1,653.91-acre property near Oroville in Okanogan County.

No individuals provided testimony on the proposed acquisition during the meeting.

Commissioner Mahnken moved, seconded by Commissioner Perry, to approve the acquisition of the 1,653.91-acre Eder Property in Okanogan County, for $1,789,200. The motion carried unanimously.

COLUMBIA RIVER CHINOOK ALLOCATION POLICIES – DISCUSSION:

As a follow-up to the December 12-13, 2008, Commission meeting in Olympia, Department staff provided additional information on proposed updates to the Commission’s spring and summer chinook allocation policies C-3617 and C-3618, which are scheduled for consideration at the January 9-10, 2009, Commission meeting in Olympia.

GENERAL DISCUSSION:

Commissioners, Interim Director Anderson, and Deputy Director Stohr discussed numerous items, including:

- January 29, 2009, Oregon-Washington Compact meeting;
- Draft response to Governor Gregoire’s July 2008 letter regarding fisheries management issues;
- Interim Director Anderson met with Hoh Tribe – agreed on steelhead management plan;
- Governor Gregoire’s budget; and
- Department’s budget.

Vice Chair Wecker adjourned the meeting at 10:42 a.m.

Approval of Land Transaction - - Motion by Mahnken, second by Perry, to approve the acquisition of the 1,653.91-acre Eder Property in Okanogan County, for $1,789,200. The motion carried unanimously.
