Vice Chair Douvia called the meeting to order at 8:37 a.m.
LEGISLATIVE UPDATE:
Tom Davis briefed the Commission on the current status of legislation related to the conservation and management of fish and wildlife resources in Washington State.
COLUMBIA RIVER CHINOOK FISHERY UPDATE – ACTION:
Guy Norman briefed the Commission on the status of spring chinook salmon fisheries and discussed options for the remainder of the season.
Commissioner Orr moved, seconded by Commissioner Perry, to authorize Interim Director Anderson to manage remaining fisheries with up to 95% of the ESA impact limit (sport 5% less than WFWC and commercial 5% less than OFWC) and consistent with U.S. v Oregon obligations, including recommended priority order of May-June fisheries (consistent with CRFWG and Commission policy): (1) sport fisheries above Bonneville and Select Area Fisheries; and 2) mainstem Columbia sport and commercial salmon fisheries below Bonneville Dam. The motion carried unanimously.
JOB DESCRIPTION FOR DEPARTMENT DIRECTOR:
Commissioners reviewed and discussed a new job description for the Department’s Director position in preparation for the upcoming candidate search process.
GENERAL DISCUSSION:
Commissioners and Interim Director Anderson discussed recent activities and items of interest, including potential revisions to the May 8-9, 2009, Commission meeting agenda.
Vice Chair Douvia adjourned the meeting at 10:00 a.m.
