Chair Wecker called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m.
A. 2010 LEGISLATIVE SESSION UPDATE:
Tom Davis briefed the Commission on the status of legislation related to the conservation and management of fish and wildlife resources in Washington State.
B. PROPOSED 2010-2012 SPORTFISHING REGULATIONS – DISCUSSION:
Commissioners and Department staff, in preparation for the February 4-5-6, 2010, Commission meeting in Olympia, reviewed and the current status of and discussed the proposed 2010-2012 sport fishing regulations package. The Commission held a public hearing on the proposals at its December 4-5, 2009, meeting in Olympia, and consider adoption of permanent rule amendments at its February 4-5-6, 2010, meeting in Olympia.
C. SPRING CHINOOK FISHERIES – DISCUSSION:
As a follow-up to the January 7-8-9, 2010, Commission meeting in Olympia, Department staff reviewed the current status of and discussed with Commissioners Policy C-3617, Mainstem Columbia River Spring chinook Management and Allocation for Non-Indian Fisheries, 2009-2013. The Commission held a public hearing on the policy at its January 7-8-9, 2010, meeting in Olympia, and may consider adoption of updates to the policy at its February 4-5-6, 2010, meeting in Olympia.
D. PUGET SOUND CRAB CATCH CARD AUDIT – STATUS UPDATE:
Deputy Director Stohr provided the Commission with information on the status of the State Auditor’s Office Performance Audit of the Department of Fish and Wildlife Puget Sound Dungeness Crab Fishing Program.
E. GENERAL DISCUSSION:
Commissioners and Department staff discussed recent activities and items of interest, including agenda items for the February 4-5-6, 2010, Commission meeting in Olympia.
