Chair Wecker called the meeting to order at 8:35 a.m.
A. HUNTER REPORTING REQUIREMENTS – RULE BRIEFING, PUBLIC HEARING & RULE ACTION
Dave Ware presented proposed amendments to WAC 232-28-299, Mandatory report of hunting activity, to make them consistent with rules adopted by the Commission earlier this year. No public signed up to testify on this item.
Commissioner Schmitten moved, seconded by Commissioner Smith, to amend WAC 232-28-299, Mandatory report of hunting activity, as proposed. The motion carried unanimously.
B. PUGET SOUND CRAB POLICY UPDATES – DISCUSSION
Commissioners and Department staff discussed possible updates to Commission Policy C-3609, Puget Sound Crab Policy. The Commissioners agreed the draft policy was on track for the public hearings scheduled for next week.
C. PROPOSED 2011-2013 DEPARTMENT BUDGET PACKAGES – BRIEFING
Joe Stohr updated the Commission on the status of proposed 2011-2013 operating and capital budget decision packages, including stakeholder involvement in strategic planning and the Department’s legislative direction for the next fiscal year.
D. GENERAL DISCUSSION
The Commission and Director discussed recent activities and items of interest, including:
- Agenda items for the August 6-7, 2010, Commission meeting in Olympia
- WDFW regional awards ceremonies
- Public meetings on lead fishing tackle restrictions
- Area 4 Bottomfish alternative rule development process
- Introduction of new Assistant Director, Dave Pulliam
Chair Wecker adjourned the meeting at 10:59 a.m.
