Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife Renewable Energy Program provides energy development technical assistance to project owners throughout Washington. Staff engage in project planning, mitigation and settlement negotiations and project permit and license implementation throughout Washington on existing and proposed energy projects (hydroelectric, wind, wave, tidal, natural gas, and nuclear). Operating within the regulatory framework the Federal Energy
Regulatory Commission (FERC) licensing process, the Federal
Clean Water Act process, the Energy
Facility Site Evaluation Council (EFSEC) process, the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA) and various other regulatory processes. Work is accomplished through a collaborative approach involving the project proponent, state, federal and tribal agencies, and internal regional experts.
Staff focus on the needs of fish and wildlife and their habitats to enhance and protect natural resources and develop mitigation for power generation. This is accomplished through a collaborative process involving the project proponent, state, federal and tribal agencies, and species experts with disciplines specific to natural resources in Washington State and the Pacific Northwest. |
