Limited Elliott Bay sport fishery this weekend for Green River chinook

OLYMPIA -- The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) has scheduled a recreational chinook salmon fishery this weekend in a portion of Elliott Bay.

The fishery opens at 12:01 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 3, and runs to 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5 with a daily two-fish limit, no more than one of which may be a chinook salmon. This is the third weekend fishery this season in Elliott Bay to target healthy Green River chinook stocks.

The fishery will occur east of a line from Pier 91 at the northern end of Elliott Bay to Duwamish Head, and fisheries enforcement officers will be on the water to ensure all regulations are followed.

The limited fishery, in the extreme terminal area where other chinook stocks are not likely to be found, was developed in cooperation with tribal co-managers and agreed to by federal fisheries officials. The fishery will not impede Puget Sound wild chinook recovery efforts.

Three additional weekend chinook fisheries are possible in Elliott Bay in August, depending on the results of treaty Indian test fisheries and the available number of harvestable chinook.

Fishers should always consult the WDFW "Fishing in Washington" sport fishing rules for fishing area information.
