2009 PFMC OCEAN SPORT QUOTA REPORT
Through September 30, 2009

Reports updated Wednesday or Thursday as data becomes available

All ocean areas between the US-Canada border and Cape Falcon, OR are now closed to salmon fishing except a portion of CRC Area 3 (La Push area) which remains open through October 11. A final catch table for the season will be available next week.

AREA 1 Effort and Catch by State

In-season Management Actions:
July 31 Bag limit liberalized to include two chinook in all ocean areas.
August 13

1,250 coho transferred from the Westport and Neah Bay areas each to the La Push area.The coho quota in the La Push area was increased from 4,480 to 6,980 coho.

August 20

8,750 coho were transferred from the Westport area quota to the Columbia River area quota with a resulting increase in the Columbia River area quota of 8,300 when lower Columbia River natural coho impacts were considered. This modifies the Westport area quota from 64,020 to 55,270 coho and the Columbia River area quota from 88,200 to 96,500.

August 26

Columbia ocean area closed to recreational salmon fishing effective 11:59 PM Monday, August 31. 1,000 coho were transferred from the Neah Bay area to the La Push area; the adjusted quota for the La Push area is 7,980 coho; the adjusted quota for the Neah Bay area is 16,100 coho.

September 3

The Columbia ocean area reopened to recreational salmon fishing effective 12:01 PM Monday, September 7.

Columbia Ocean Area (including Oregon)
Ocean Area 1 (Columbia Ocean Area) opened for recreational fishing for all salmon species on Sunday, June 28 operating under a revised quota of 96,500 coho. The catch estimates for Area 1 during the week of September 7-13 are 33 chinook and 1,547 coho. Season catches through September 13 total 5,196 chinook and 84,250 coho (87% of the area sub-quota). No pink have been landed.

Westport
Ocean Area 2 (Westport) opened for recreational fishing for all salmon species on Sunday, June 28 operating under a revised quota of 55,270 coho. The catch estimates for Area 2 during the week of September 7-13 are 102 chinook and 3,053 coho. Season catches through September 13 total 4,977 chinook and 50,324 coho (91% of the area sub-quota). A total of 265 pink have been landed.

La Push
Ocean Area 3 (La Push) opened for recreational fishing for all salmon species on Saturday, June 27 operating under a revised quota of 7,980 coho. The catch estimates for Area 3 during the week of September 7-13 are 0 chinook and 105 coho. Season catches through September 13 total 542 chinook and 6,652 coho (83% of the area sub-quota). A total of 205 pink have been landed.

Neah Bay
Ocean Area 4 (Neah Bay) opened for recreational fishing for all salmon species on Saturday, June 27 operating under a revised quota of 17,100 coho. The catch estimates for Area 4 during the week of September 7-13 are 16 chinook and 475 coho. Season catches through September 13 total 2,437 chinook and 13,218 coho (82% of the area sub-quota). A total of 7,171 pink have been landed.
