Ocean Recreational Salmon Fishery: Weeks 38 (September 11-17)

In-season Management Actions:
Effective Friday, August 11, all areas will open to recreational salmon fishing 7 days per week with a 2-salmon bag limit.(No chum retention in Neah Bay area and no chinook retention east of Bonilla-Tatoosh line.)

On August 25, 2,000 coho were transferred from the Westport area quota to the La Push area quota. Those coho translated to an increase in the La Push area quota of 1,140 coho when Thompson River coho impacts were considered.

Effective August 26, the area between Cape Falcon and Tillamook Head, OR opened to recreational salmon fishing.

1 Sub-quotas of 1,889 coho and 1,300 chinook are in effect in Area 3 for the time period June 30 - September 17.Effective September 23, the fishery reopens through October 8, or until attainment of the total area quota of 1,939 coho or 1,400 chinook. Area restrictions in effect.
2 Upon closure of the ocean salmon fishery, a state-waters Area 4B fishery will open with a quota of 3,000 marked coho and chinook non-retention.

Columbia Ocean Area (including Oregon)
Ocean Area 1 (Columbia Ocean Area) opened for recreational salmon fishing on Monday, July 3 with a quota of 36,600 coho and a guideline of 8,300 chinook. The catch estimates for Area 1 during week 38 are 13 chinook and 107 coho; the season totals through September 17 are 2,278 chinook and 24,840 coho (68% of the quota).

Westport
Ocean Area 2 (Westport) opened for recreational salmon fishing on Monday, July 3 with a quota of 27,603 coho (revised August 25 to 25,603) and a guideline of 18,100 chinook. The fishery closed on its automatic closure date, September 17. The catch estimates for Area 2 during week 38 are 157 chinook and 440 coho; the season totals through September 17 are 5,853 chinook and 8,799 coho (34% of the revised quota).

La Push
Ocean Area 3 (La Push) opened for recreational salmon fishing on Friday, June 30 with a sub-quota of 1,889 coho (revised August 25 to 3,029) and a guideline of 1,300 chinook . The fishery closed on its automatic closure date, September 17 and will reopen for the late-season fishery on September 23. The catch estimates for Area 3 during week 38 are 10 chinook and 7 coho; the season totals through September 17 are 1,287 chinook and 1,821 coho (60% of the revised quota).

Neah Bay
Ocean Area 4 (Neah Bay) opened for recreational salmon fishing on Friday, June 30 with a quota of 7,058 coho and a guideline of 3,200 chinook. The fishery closed on its automatic closure date, September 17. The catch estimates for Area 4 during week 38 are 34 chinook and 195 coho; the season totals through September 17 are 1,428 chinook and 5,826 coho (83% of the quota).
