Hanford Reach Fall Chinook Sport Fishery
The Hanford Reach fall chinook sport fishery was closed to the retention of any salmon on October 14. Anglers were allowed to continue to fish for hatchery steelhead and catch and release only for salmon. The number of boats fishing for salmon dropped dramatically after October 14. An estimated 276 fall chinook were harvested during the final three days of retention (193 adults & 83 jacks). Only 48 adult and 39 jack chinook were caught and released after October 14.To date, 6,532 adult fall chinook and 1,997 jacks have been harvested.
Hanford Reach Steelhead Sport Fishery
A total of 474 steelhead were caught this past week with 253 hatchery steelhead retained (53%). For the season, 1,432 steelhead have been caught, 884 hatchery steelhead retained, and 393 wild steelhead have been released.
The majority of the effort and harvest has been concentrated in the areas below the Hanford townsite. Very limited effort has been associated with the opening of the river above the Hanford town site. This upper area will close to fishing for steelhead on October 22.
Expansions for harvest and wild impacts are being generated weekly for in-season monitoring. Final expansions are calculated based on mean daily harvest/impacts by month and will be reported at month's end and included in the final report.
