Salmon/Steelhead -
Cowlitz River - Some hatchery spring chinook and hatchery late winter steelhead are being caught from the barrier dam downstream.
During the past week, Tacoma Power and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife employees recovered 253 winter-run steelhead and 14 spring chinook adult during five days of separator operations at Tacoma Power's Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery.
During the week three steelhead were recycled downstream to the Massey Bar boat launch.
Tacoma Power employees transported ten spring chinook adults and 159 steelhead for release into the upper Cowlitz River at the Day Use Park in Lake Scanewa during the week. In addition, 92 adult steelhead were released into the Tilton River at Gust Backstrom Park in Morton, Washington during the week.
River flows at Mayfield Dam are approximately 5,110 cubic feet per second on Monday, April 5. Water visibility is nine feet.
Kalama River - Some steelhead are being caught. River conditions are fairly low and clear. 35 hatchery winter broodstock steelhead were recycled downstream this past week. 109 wild winter-run steelhead and 2 fresh wild summer-run steelhead were passed upstream from Kalama Falls Hatchery.
Wind River - Boat anglers are catching some spring chinook. Several of the fish were larger five-year-olds.
Drano Lake - Reports of some spring chinook being caught, just none found in the sample last week. Effort is light. Boat ramp is open but launching is reported more restricted/difficult than in the past. The old boat ramp is usable but the area around the ramp has been blocked off.
Klickitat River - No fish reported caught on the Saturday April 3 opener. No effort was found there on Monday April 5.
Lower Columbia below Bonneville Dam - Effort and catches continue to increase. Including fish released, boat anglers averaged a chinook per every 6.7 rods (based on completed trips) while bank anglers averaged one per every 11.0 rods (based on mainly incomplete trips) during the first four days in April. 71% of the fish caught were hatchery fish. 54% of the fish kept were of upriver origin.
1,500 salmonid boats and 900 bank anglers were counted during the Saturday April 3 flight from Bonneville Dam downstream. Boat effort was spread fairly evenly throughout the river.
Through March 31, an estimated 58,392 angler trips has produced a catch of 2,974 chinook kept and 838 released and 622 steelhead kept and 471 released.
Nearly 400 adult spring chinook were counted at Bonneville Dam on Monday April 5. Through that date, nearly 1,500 fish had been counted. The recent 10-year average is 10,094 fish. At the dam yesterday, water temp was 49 degrees F and water visibility 6 feet.
The states of Oregon and Washington are going to meet Thursday April 8 to update the run progress and sport catches. Future meetings are scheduled to occur weekly through the season.
Bonneville Pool - Some spring chinook are being caught by boat anglers in the open area from The Dalles Dam downstream to the Tower Island power lines.
The Dalles Pool - Bank anglers are catching some spring chinook.
John Day Pool - Bank anglers are catching some steelhead.
Sturgeon -
Lower Columbia below Bonneville Dam - Not many sturgeon anglers found during sampling last week.
Bonneville Pool - Boat and bank anglers are catching some legals.
The Dalles Pool - Including legals released, boat anglers averaged a fish per boat last week. Bank anglers were also catching some legals.
John Day Pool - Boat anglers are catching some legals. Slow for legals from the bank.
Walleye and Bass -
Bonneville Pool - Light effort and catches for both species.
The Dalles Pool - Including fish released, boat anglers averaged 1.4 walleye and 7.4 bass per rod last week. Bank angling effort was light.
John Day Pool - Boat anglers averaged nearly a walleye and 6.7 bass per rod when including fish released last week. No bank anglers were found in the sample.
Trout -
Klineline Pond - Producing browns and some rainbows for bank anglers. Planted with 1,280 catchable size rainbows on March 31.

Swofford Pond near Mossyrock - 3,360 catchable size rainbows;
Silver Lake near Castle Rock - 7,560 catchable size rainbows;
Horseshoe Lake in Woodland - 2,500 catchable size rainbows;
Lacamas Lake near Camas - 5,273 catchable size rainbows and 1,450 half-pound browns.
