Salmon/Steelhead -

Cowlitz River - Producing some hatchery spring chinook and late winter steelhead from the barrier dam downstream. Through April 7, a total of 117 hatchery spring chinook had returned to the salmon hatchery.

Kalama River - Also producing some hatchery spring and late winter steelhead.

Lewis River - Anglers are catching some spring chinook around the salmon hatchery.

East Fork Lewis River from the mouth to the top boat ramp at Lewisville Park and Washougal River from the mouth to the Mt. Norway Bridge at Vernon Road - Opens to fishing for hatchery steelhead beginning April 16. Selective gear rules apply.

Wind River - Boat anglers are catching some spring chinook. Generally a few reported caught daily, including some nice size five year-olds up to 29 pounds.

Drano Lake - Bank anglers are catching some spring chinook. Closed to all fishing on Wednesdays beginning April 14.

White Salmon River - Light effort and no catch reported.

Klickitat River - We sampled the first spring chinook of the season there last Saturday (April 10).

Lower Columbia below Bonneville Dam - Catch and effort continues to increase. Including fish released, boat anglers averaged an adult chinook per every 3.2 rods (based on completed trips) while bank anglers averaged one per every 6.9 rods (based on mainly incomplete trips) last week. We sampled over 2,700 anglers and they had caught 742 chinook. 76.6% of the fish caught were hatchery fish. 72.5% of the fish kept were of upriver origin.

Through April 4, an estimated 76,900 angler trips had produced 5,380 chinook kept and 1,660 released. An estimated 15% of the 0.8% impact rate had been taken. Through Sunday April 11, a total of 5,127 adult spring chinook had been counted at Bonneville Dam. The ten-year average is 22,967 fish. Next run and sport catch update is scheduled for Wednesday April 14.

Bonneville Pool - Boat anglers are catching some spring chinook from the upper end of the pool.

The Dalles Pool - Bank anglers are catching some spring chinook.

John Day Pool - Bank anglers continue to catch steelhead.


Sturgeon -

Lower Columbia below Bonneville Dam - Bank anglers in the Woodland area and boat anglers in the gorge are catching some legals. The estimated 4,600 angler trips and 400 legals kept in March was the lowest total for the month since records began in 1977.

Bonneville Pool - Boat anglers are catching some legals. Slow from the bank. Through March 31, an estimated 261 of the 700 fish (37%) of the guideline had been taken.

The Dalles Pool - Bank anglers are catching some legals. Slow from boats. Through March 31, an estimated 197 of the 400 fish (49%) of the guideline had been taken.

John Day Pool - Boat anglers are catching some legals. Slow from the bank. Through March 31, an estimated 61 of the 165 fish (37%) of the guideline had been taken.


Walleye and Bass -

Bonneville Pool - Not much effort for either species but boat anglers did catch some bass.

The Dalles Pool - Boat anglers averaged over a walleye per rod when counting fish released. No effort was observed for bass.

John Day Pool - Including fish released, boat anglers averaged nearly a walleye per rod last week. In addition, they averaged over 4 bass per rod.


Trout -

Klineline Pond - Bank anglers are catching rainbows and browns. The pond was planted with 1,250 catchable size rainbows last Monday (April 5).

South Lewis County Pond in Toledo - 4,014 browns;
Swofford Pond near Mossyrock - 4,017 browns;
Sacajawea Lake in Longview - 4,014 browns;
Horseshoe Lake in Woodland - 3,552 rainbows;
Battleground Lake - 3,000 rainbows;
Lacamas Lake near Camas - 5,300 rainbows
