Grays River (including
West Fork) - Opens to fishing for hatchery coho September 1. Daily
limit 6 adipose clipped coho with no more than 4 adults. All chinook,
chum, and wild coho must be released.
Elochoman River
- Opens to fishing for fall chinook and hatchery coho beginning
September 1. Bonus limit for adult hatchery coho through mid October.
Release chum and wild coho.
Mill, Abernathy,
Germany, and Coal creeks - Lower portions of these streams will
be closed to all fishing in September and October to protect spawning
fall chinook.
Coweeman River
- New for 2007 - Closed to all fishing in September and October
to protect spawning fall chinook.
Cowlitz River
- Some chinook are being caught at the barrier dam while steelhead
are being taken near Blue Creek.
Last week, Tacoma
Power recovered 11 spring chinook adults, two jacks, 59 mini jacks,
four fall chinook jacks, 143 summer-run steelhead, two cutthroat trout
and two sockeye salmon at the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery separator during
five days of operations.
Tacoma Power employees
released 51 spring chinook mini-jacks into Riffe Lake and four fall
chinook jacks into Mayfield Lake.
River flows at Mayfield
Dam are approximately at 2,520 cubic feet per second on Monday, August
20. Water visibility is over 11 feet.
Lewis River -
Some chinook, coho, and steelhead are being reported caught near the
mouth though the few anglers sampled had no catch.
Wind River -
Boat anglers are catching some steelhead. Thirteen boats were counted
here Saturday August 18 morning. Low pool levels are making problems
for boaters.
Drano Lake -
Including fish released, boat anglers averaged a steelhead per rod.
Some chinook are also being caught.
White Salmon
River - Boat anglers averaged a steelhead per rod when including
fish released. Bank anglers are also catching some steelhead and a few
chinook. Crowded with 70 water craft counted here Saturday morning.
No parking was available along State Route 141.
Klickitat River
- The few bank anglers sampled had no catch.
Buoy 10 -
Bad weather kept some of the ocean boats in the river. 330 boat anglers
caught 22 coho. Chinook are being reported caught but must be released.
They may be retained beginning Wednesday August 22. 89 boats were counted
during the Saturday Aug. 18 flight.

These summaries
are for the Ports of Chinook and Ilwaco/Fort Canby. They do not include
Oregon's sampling or estimated total effort and catch. In addition,
they do not include fish released.
Lower Columbia
below Bonneville Dam - Effort and catches are increasing. Last week
we sampled 1,745 salmonid anglers with 87 adult and 3 jack fall chinook,
182 steelhead, and 1 coho. Boat anglers averaged an adult chinook and
a steelhead per about every 16 rods, respectively, based on mainly completed
trips. Bank anglers averaged an adult chinook and steelhead per every
31 and 7 rods, respectively, based on mainly incomplete trips. 140 (77%)
of the steelhead caught were kept.
On the Saturday
August 18 flight, 642 salmonid boats and 374 WA bank and 99 OR bank
anglers were counted from the Rocky Point/Tongue Point line upstream
to Bonneville Dam.
Bonneville Pool
- Boat anglers are catching some steelhead and chinook.
Hanford Reach
- The first week of the Hanford sport fisheries was a slow starter.
Weather was nice this week as well as the water conditions. 14 anglers
(three shore and 11 boat) were checked with one fall chinook and released
1 wild summer steelhead. No news on success at the mouth of the Yakima
which is typically good in the early part of the season.
