Salmon/Steelhead -
Cowlitz River - 56 bank anglers kept 3 winter steelhead last week. 14 boat anglers kept 2 winter steelhead. Most of the fish were sampled at Blue Creek.
During the past week, Tacoma Power and Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife employees recovered 21 winter-run steelhead and one coho salmon adult during three days of separator operations at Tacoma Power's Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery.
During the week a total of 12 steelhead were recycled downstream to the Interstate-5 boat launch.
Tacoma Power employees transported eleven steelhead and one coho upstream and released them into the Tilton River at Gust Backstrom Park in Morton, Washington.
River flows at Mayfield Dam are approximately 5,090 cubic feet per second on Monday, February 23. Water visibility is five and a half feet.
Lower Columbia from the I-5 Bridge downstream - Slow.
Bonneville Pool - No effort for steelhead was observed there last week.
The Dalles Pool - The few boat anglers sampled last week did well on hatchery steelhead.
John Day Pool - Bank anglers are catching some steelhead.
Sturgeon -
Lower Columbia below Bonneville Dam - Some legals are being caught from the bank just below Bonneville Dam.
Bonneville Pool - Boat anglers averaged a legal kept per every 9 rods last week. Bank anglers are also catching some legals.
The Dalles Pool - Boat anglers averaged 0.3 legals per rod last week. Bank angling is slow for legal size fish.
John Day Pool - Bank anglers are catching some legals.
Walleye and Bass -
Bonneville, The Dalles, and John Day pools - Including fish released, boat anglers averaged 0.25-0.86 walleye per rod last week. No effort was found for bass last week.
Trout -
Klineline Pond - Received 1,000 rainbows averaging nearly 2/3 pound each last week.
Smelt -
Mainstem Columbia - Lots of birds observed around the Cathlamet/Skamokawa area last weekend.
Grays River - Seagulls and eagles observed around the town of Grays River late last week. Test dipping last Friday and Saturday afternoon produced no fish.
Cowlitz River - Commercial fishers reportedly dipped a single fresh smelt last night.
