WDFW Sport Sampling Results:
Janaury 11, 2004

Salmon/Steelhead -

Cowlitz River - Last week, 161 bank anglers had kept 18 winter steelhead. 49 boat anglers kept 10 winter and 1 summer steelhead. Most of the fish were observed around Blue Creek.

Cowlitz Hatchery escapement report lists a second spring chinook had returned as of Jan. 12
(I confirmed the report. Both fish were adipose fin clipped. Guides reported several fish have been caught around Blue Creek.)

Bonneville Pool - No salmonid effort observed last week.

The Dalles Pool - Anglers are catching some summer-run steelhead from last year's return.

John Day Pool - Bank anglers are catching some summer-run steelhead from last year's return.


Sturgeon -

Lower Columbia below Bonneville Dam - Last week, 8 bank anglers in the Cathlamet/Longview area had released 1 sublegal. 2 boat anglers at Vancouver had released 2 sublegals.

Bonneville, The Dalles, and John Day pools - Light effort and catches.


Walleye and Bass -

Bonneville, The Dalles, and John Day pools - No effort was found in any pool last week.


Trout -

Klineline Pond - Received 1,000 catchable size rainbows on December 29.


Smelt -

No new updates.
