Salmon/Steelhead -

No report on angling success last week. On the Washington lower Columbia River tributaries, spring chinook returns are larger than the pre-season forecast. In addition, most summer run steelhead hatchery returns are as good or ahead of last year. The specifics are:

Lower Columbia below Bonneville Dam - Including fish released, anglers averaged a summer steelhead per about every 6 rods last week. Best catches were from Longview downstream. A few hatchery summer run chinook are also being caught.

Sturgeon -

Lower Columbia from the Wauna power lines upstream to Beacon Rock - Slow for legal size fish. About 125 boats counted during last Saturday's (July 10) flight. Slightly over half the boats were counted in the gorge.


Walleye and Bass -

John Day Pool - Boat anglers averaged nearly 2 walleye and 5 bass per rod when including fish released last week.


Trout -

Mayfield Lake - Producing some rainbows for boat anglers.

Riffe Lake - Producing mainly landlocked coho.

Swofford Pond - Producing a mixture of rainbows and some warm water fish.

Mineral Lake - No report on angling success. Planted with nearly 2,000 catchable size browns and 3,000 rainbows last week.


Shad -

Lower Columbia below Bonneville Dam - Still a few anglers trying just below Bonneville Dam. Catches are light.
