Cowlitz River

Last week Tacoma
Power recovered 134 spring chinook adults, 41 jacks, 397 mini-jacks
and 135 summer-run steelhead at the Cowlitz Salmon Hatchery separator
during five days of operations.
Tacoma Power employees
released 29 spring chinook salmon and 31 jacks into the upper Cowlitz
River at the Lake Scanewa Day Use Site during the week. Four radio-tagged
adult spring chinook adult were released into the Cispus River and four
radio-tagged spring chinook adults were released into the upper Cowlitz
River at the Skate Bridge site in Packwood during the week. Tacoma Power
employees released 284 spring chinook mini-jacks into Riffe Lake.
River flows at Mayfield
Dam are approximately 2,510 cubic feet per second on Monday, July 16.
The water visibility is over six feet.
Lewis River -
Anglers in the North Fork and mainstem Lewis are catching some summer
run steelhead.
Drano Lake -
Boat anglers are catching a few summer run steelhead.
White Salmon
River - Bank anglers are catching some summer run steelhead. No
summer run chinook reported caught here or at Drano Lake (they cannot
be kept at Drano.)
Klickitat River
- Some drift boat anglers reported success before the hot weather
and muddy water last week.
Lower Columbia
below Bonneville Dam - Catch rates for steelhead improved last week.
We sampled 573 salmonid anglers with 10 summer chinook jacks and 124
summer run steelhead. Boat and bank anglers averaged a steelhead per
every 3.5 and 5 rods based on mainly completed and incomplete trips,
respectively. Nearly 2/3 of the steelhead caught were kept. Fish were
being caught throughout the river although some of the best success
for steelhead and chinook jacks were by bank anglers near Bonneville
Dam.

- Boat anglers were catching some summer run steelhead.
