Grays and Elochoman
rivers - Tuesday July 31 is the last day to fish for hatchery spring
chinook on both systems and hatchery steelhead on the Grays (including
West Fork).
Cowlitz River
- Steelhead fishing improved at the end of last week.
Lewis River -
Steelhead are being caught at the mouth. Sampling indicates some of
those are likely upper Columbia origin fish cooling off from the warm
(70 degree) Columbia waters.
Drano Lake -
Effort and catches are beginning to build. Including fish released,
boat anglers averaged a steelhead per every other rod.
White Salmon
River - Effort and catches are beginning to build here too. 26 boats
were counted last Saturday (July 21) morning. Anglers are averaging
about ½ steelhead per rod when including fish released. Some
chinook were reported rolling at the buoy line at the mouth.
Klickitat River
- Drift boat anglers were catching some steelhead. River was clearing.
Lower Columbia
below Bonneville Dam - We sampled 507 salmonid anglers 2 summer
chinook jacks and 122 summer run steelhead. Including fish released,
boat anglers averaged a steelhead per every 2.7 rods and bank anglers
one per every 4.5 rods based on mainly completed and incomplete trips,
respectively. Overall, nearly 2/3 of the fish caught were kept. Best
catches were found below Cathlamet.
Bonneville Pool
- Boat anglers are catching some steelhead.
Fall salmon permanent
rules which will be in effect beginning August 1:
Buoy 10 (from
the Buoy 10 line upstream to the Rocky Point/Tongue Point line) -
Opens to fishing for salmon 7 days per week. Through September 30 the
daily limit is 2 salmon. Release wild coho, sockeye, and chum. Chinook
minimum size 24"; coho 16". New for 2007: One chinook, adipose
fin clipped or not, may be retained as part of the daily limit from
August 22 through September 3.
Barbed hooks
are allowed. Anglers may fish with either a saltwater, freshwater,
or combination license. Each anglers aboard a vessel may continue to
fish until the daily limit for all licensed and juvenile anglers aboard
has been achieved; however, no individual angler may exceed any personal
daily bag limit.
North Jetty -
Open to fishing for salmon 7 days per week when Marine Area 1 (Ilwaco)
or Buoy 10 areas are open for salmon. Barbed hooks allowed. The daily
limit and minimum size restrictions follow the most liberal regulations
of either of these areas.
Lower Columbia
mainstem from the Rocky Point/Tongue Point line upstream to Bonneville
Dam - The salmon daily limit will be 6 fish, no more than 2 adults
of which only 1 may be an adult chinook. Any chinook, adipose fin clipped
or not, may be retained. Release wild coho, sockeye and chum. New for
2007: All chinook must be released downstream from a line from a boundary
marker on the lower end of Bachelor Island across to the Warrior Rock
Lighthouse September 5-30.
Mainstem Columbia
from Bonneville Dam to the Hwy. 395 Bridge at Pasco - The salmon
daily limit will be 6 salmon no more than 2 adults. Any chinook, adipose
fin clipped or not, may be retained. Release sockeye. Release wild coho
from Bonneville Dam to Hood River Bridge. Release chum upstream to The
Dalles Dam.
From Bonneville
Dam to The Dalles Dam - All species - Night closure and non-buoyant
lure restriction through October 15.
Deep, Cowlitz,
Kalama, Lewis, (including North Fork), and Klickitat rivers - Any
chinook with or without an adipose fin may retained.
Green, Toutle
(including North Fork), Washougal, Wind, White Salmon rivers plus Drano
Lake - Open to fishing for salmon. Any chinook, with or without
an adipose fin may be retained. Wild coho must be released.
Wind, White Salmon,
Klickitat rivers and Drano Lake - Non-buoyant lure restrictions
are in effect.
Other new regulations
for 2007 that will be in effect August 1:
Lower Cowlitz, Deep,
Green, Kalama, Lewis (including North Fork), Toutle (including North
Fork) have bonus daily limits for hatchery adult coho.
All salmon other
than chinook or coho must be released on the lower Cowlitz.
Camas Slough is
open when adjacent mainstem Columbia or Washougal rivers are open to
fishing for salmon. The daily limit follows the most liberal regulation
of either area.
