Salmon/Steelhead -
Cowlitz River - Some late winter steelhead are being caught throughout the river from the barrier dam downstream. We sampled our first spring chinook here last week.
Kalama River - Some steelhead are being caught.
Lewis River - A few steelhead and spring chinook are being caught.
Lower Columbia from the I-5 Bridge downstream - A few spring chinook and steelhead are being caught. During the Saturday Feb. 28 flight, 175 salmonid boats were counted in addition to 266 bank anglers on the Oregon shore and 57 along the Washington side. The largest number of boats (47) were counted in the Cathlamet area.
Bonneville Pool - No effort was found there last week.
The Dalles Pool - The few boat anglers sampled averaged 1.5 steelhead per rod last week.
John Day Pool - No steelhead were sampled from the bank fishery last week.
Sturgeon -
Lower Columbia below Bonneville Dam - Slow for boat anglers in the gorge area last week. During the Saturday Feb. 28 flight, 181 sturgeon boats were counted. About 1/3 of the boats were counted in the gorge.
Bonneville and The Dalles pools - Boat anglers averaged a legal kept per every 6 rods last week. A few legals are being caught from the bank in Bonneville Pool; slow from The Dalles Pool.
John Day Pool - A few legals are being caught by boat anglers.
Walleye and Bass -
Bonneville Pool - No effort was found for either specie last week.
The Dalles Pool - Including fish released, bank and boat anglers averaged a walleye per rod last week. No effort was observed for bass.
John Day Pool - Boat anglers averaged nearly 3/4 walleye per rod when including fish released last week. No effort was observed for bass.
Trout -
No report.
Smelt -
Signs of birds and sea lions in the Cathlamet faded last week. No fish currently reported in any tributary.
