Coastal Commercial Dungness Crab Fishers and Processors WDFW Industry Notice
December 7, 2007

Change in Temporary Pot Limits

Effective immediately, the temporary pot limits in place for fishers that fish in the Washington coastal Dungeness crab fishery south of Klipsan Beach, Washington will be increased. In light of the recent severe weather conditions on the coast, WDFW has increased the number of pots fishers can use during the temporary reduced pot limit period. The increase is intended to alleviate the strain on fishers as they work to recover gear that was displaced by the storm. Currently, fishers with 500 and 300 pot limits are required to use 400 and 250 pots.

The new pot limit for license owners with a permanent 500-pot limit is 450.

The new pot limit for license owners with a permanent 300-pot limit is 275.

Replacement tags are available for gear that has been confirmed lost by the owner. The regulations allow for a replacement of buoy tags - up to 10% of a fishers full pot limit from the start of the season until January 15. Fishers can obtain replacement tags at the WDFW Willapa Bay Field Station in Nahcotta and the Region Six office in Montesano.
