Puget Sound Commercial Dungeness Crab Fishery

Update: A regulation has been finalized that allows the retention and sale of any Tanner crab "by-catch" that is landed incidentally to the normal Dungeness crab fishery. This stipulation will be allowed in Region 1 and Region 3-1 only. The minimum size for Tanner crab is 4.5" across the largest width of the shell. The start time for this regulation is at 8:00 am, Tuesday, February 9th, 2016. All Tanner crab landed must be accounted for on a Fish Ticket and Quick Reported as required for Dungeness crab. 

Region 1 and Region 3-1 will remain open with a 50 pot per license per buoy tag limit. 

Region 3-3 will remain open with a 100 pot per license per buoy tag limit.

Below find the timeline/history of the 2015-2016 Puget Sound Commercial Crab Fishery:

An Emergency Regulation was approved opening the Puget Sound Commercial Crab Fishery at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2015.  The opening included Region 1, Region 2 East, Region 2 West, Region 3-1, Region 3-2 and Region 3-3. 

All areas, with the exception of Region 3-3, had an initial pot limit of 50 pots per license, per buoy tag number. The additional 50 buoy tags per license must be on board the vessel and available for inspection.

Region 3-3 had an initial pot limit of 100 pots per license, per buoy tag number.

Region 2 West CLOSED at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2015

Region 2 East CLOSED at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2015

Region 3-2 CLOSED at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, 2015

ALL of the remaining State Commercial Dungeness Crab Regions (Regions 1, 3-1 and 3-3) CLOSED at 6:30 pm on Wednesday, October 28, 2015.

The Puget Sound Commercial Crab Fishery reopened at 8:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 15th, 2015. The opening includes Region 1, Region 2 East, Region 2 West, Region 3-1, Region 3-2 and Region 3-3.

Region 1 and Region 3-1 had an initial pot limit of 50 pots per license. Region 2 East, Region 2 West and Region 3-2 had an initial pot limit of 30 pots per license. Region 3-3 had a pot limit of 100 pots per license.

Region 2 East and Region 2 West CLOSED on December 29th, 2015 at 6:00 pm.

Region 3-2 CLOSED on December 30th, 2015 at 6:00 pm.

The Recreational Summer harvest data in the table below is FINAL. This number does include EUC (Estimated Unreported Catch at 4%).

Allocation Increases negotiated in early December are reflected in the Table Below.

The Recreational Winter harvest data is projected based on historic winter landings and current regional trends.
