The 2008 Puget
Sound Commercial Salmon Regulation pamphlet was mailed the week of
June 15th. If you have not received a copy please contact (360) 902-2700

for updated information regarding Puget Sound commercial salmon fisheries.
The fifth test
catch of the APC Test Fishery was conducted on Wednesday, November
5th and a total of 577 chum, 0 Coho, and 16 Chinook were landed in
6 sets. The South Sound runsize has been adjusted and downgraded to
350,000 chum. The Hood Canal runsize is suggested to be above preseason
forecast in the range of 845,000 chum. These results are posted on
the web address listed on pages 1 and 40 of the pamphlet that should
be checked regularly for updated information regarding Puget Sound
commercial salmon fisheries.
Fishers are
reminded that a Fish Friendly certification card is required to participate
in any Areas 7 or 7A commercial salmon fisheries. The next available
course will be on Tuesday, September 9th, starting 11 AM at the North
Puget Sound - Region 4 Office, located at 16018 Mill Creek Boulevard,
Mill Creek, Washington 98012. Contact Jeromy Jording at (360) 902-2717
if you plan to attend this workshop, as space is limited.
Fishers should
retain all Atlantic Salmon caught anytime during any opening. Use
species code 047 when filling out a Puget Sound Fish Ticket for all
Atlantic salmon.
Also please
be aware Area 8 Skagit Bay is closed and Area 12C Lower Hood Canal
is closed.
Areas 7 and
7A San Juan Islands and Point Roberts are open for reef nets:
- 5 AM to 9
PM daily, continuously through Saturday, November 15th.
- Chinook must
be released at all times.
- Fishers must
have a Fish Friendly certification card within their immediate possession.
Areas 7 and
7A San Juan Islands and Point Roberts are currently open everyday
of the week to gill nets using 6-¼ inch minimum mesh daily
from:
- 7 AM to Midnight
through Saturday, November 15th.
- Fishers must
have a Fish Friendly certification card within their immediate possession.
Areas 7 and
7A San Juan Islands and Point Roberts are currently open everyday
of the week to purse seines using the 5-inch strip daily from:
- 7 AM to 5
PM through Saturday, November 15th.
- Brailing and
recovery boxes are required and must be operating at all times to
participate.
- Chinook and
coho must be released and if injured or lethargic, placed in the
recovery box for release after they have recovered.
- Fishers must
have a Fish Friendly certification card within their immediate possession.
Area 7B Bellingham
Bay is open 24 hrs per day from 7 AM Monday until 4PM Friday to
gill nets using 6-¼ inch minimum mesh size continuously through
December 5th, and to purse seines using the 5-inch strip 24 hrs per
day from 7 AM Monday until 4PM Friday through December 5th.
The portion
of Area 7B east of a line from Post Point to the flashing red light
at the west entrance to Squalicum Harbor is open to commercial
harvest continuously until 4:00 p.m. Friday, December 7th
Area 8 Skagit
Bay is closed.
Area 8A Port
Susan and Port Gardner will be open to gill nets using 6-¼
inch minimum mesh from 7 AM to 7 PM on the following dates:
- Monday, November
10th.
- Wednesday,
November 12th.
- And from 7
AM to 4 PM on Friday, November 14th.
Area 8A Port
Susan and Port Gardner will be open to purse seines using the
5-inch strip from:
- 7 AM to 5
PM on Tuesday, November 11th and Thursday, November 13th.
- Chinook must
be released.
Area 8D Tulalip
Bay will be open to gill nets using 6-¼ inch minimum mesh
from:
- 7 AM to 7
PM on Thursday, November 13th
- and from 7
AM to 4 PM on Friday, November 14th.
Area 8D Tulalip
Bay will be open to purse seines using the 5-inch strip from 7
AM to 5 PM on Tuesday, November 11th and Thursday, November 13th.
Chinook must be released.
Areas 10 and
11 Seattle and Tacoma will be open to gill nets using 6-¼
inch minimum mesh during the following dates and times:
- 3 PM Sunday,
November 9th to 7 AM Monday, November 10th.
- 4 PM till 11:59
PM Thursday, November 13th.
Areas 10 and
11 Seattle and Tacoma will be open to purse seines using the 5-inch
strip from:
- 7 AM to 5
PM on Monday, November 10th and Wednesday, November 12th.
- Chinook and
coho must be released.
Areas 12 and
12B Hood Canal will be open to gill nets using 6-¼ inch
minimum mesh from 7 AM to 7 PM on:
- Tuesday, November
11th.
- Thursday, November
13th.
Areas 12 and
12B Hood Canal will be open to purse seines using the 5-inch strip
from 7 AM to 5 PM on Monday, November 10th and Wednesday, November
12th. Chinook and wild coho must be released.
Areas 12C Lower
Hood Canal is closed.
