Other Description
Rule to Change:
Commercial fishing is allowed 24 hours per day 7 days a week during the season, in Carr inlet.
New Rule Proposal:
We need to limit the amount of netting that is allowed during the peak of the runs. It should be set up with a schedule similiar to Chambers Creek.
Why the change is needed:
This rule needs to be changed because in the last 10 years that I have fished along side the netters I have noticed a major reduction in the amount of salmon that return to Burley Lagoon. About 10 years ago I started out fishing Carr inlet with the natives, when I started they would be able to catch a constant amount of fish throughout the whole run. Now it has dwindled off considerably. The amount of fish that return to purdy and burley creek is very minimal and I worry that the stock may be completely gone in the next few years.
Names of individuals or groups with whom you have discussed this change:
I have talked to a few of my fishing buddies and my family about it.
Describe their support and/or concerns:
We all feel that the stock of salmon that return to Burley Lagoon need to be better protected.

Why are natives allowed to commercial fish the salmon runs? I thought the passing of the law was to allow them to keep thier heritage rofitnot so they could profit and deplete the salmon runs. I good understand if they were using a canoe, but using a large fishing vessel is no different than if you and I were doing the same.

The recreational fishers once again take a back seat to commercials. If we are ever to recover and protect salmon runs commercials have to be a major part of the process.
