This request is for the WDFW to create and present a comprehensive report on the Puget Sound Spot Shrimp fishery to the Commission and public.
Why the change is needed:
This report should include a stock analysis, allocation breakdown, historical data, user history, allocation enforcement measures, and department position on current allocation recommendations. This report is intended to inform the commission and public in continuing effort to correct allocation distribution of the resource so that it can be enjoyed and utilized by recreational sports fishermen. The current seasons and days are completely unexceptable for recreation users, it's time to return this resource to the people of the state of Washington.

The commission has expressed that this issue will be a priority this year and this request is in line with that process.

Thank you for this request. We will pass this request on to our spot shrimp biologists and managers. This request is not a rule and so cannot be considered as part of the sport rule process. Please also know that the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission is currently reviewing and updating the Puget Sound shrimp policy and will be evaluating the recreational season design through this process.

Comments:
I attend the meeting Dec 15 where a proposal for recreational spot shrimp has been accepted. My interest is Hood canal, in the past the hours of harvest have been 9:00-1:00 which for many have caused a lot of problems. Congestion at the launches and in the water. With such a small window there also a safety issue. Because of the small window, most have to wait to get out of the water because of the tides, sometimes up to several hours. With the afternoon winds on the canal and the tides this creates a more congestion and safety problems. Thank you Rick
