mountain whitefish
Rule to Change:
Early closure of Puyallup system for all fishing in January.
New Rule Proposal:
Apply whitefish fishing rule to on the Carbon, White and Little Puyallup through the month of February, instead of curtailing all fishing opportunity in January.
Why the change is needed:
Allow for inland fish recreational opportunity for whitefish to give local anglers a chance to fish in a local stream. Not everyone can afford to travel to the coast or Grays Harbor in this time of dwindling opportunities for inland fishers.
Names of individuals or groups with whom you have discussed this change:
Larry Phillips DFW, Mike Sharpf DFW,
Describe their support and/or concerns:
Recognize the benefit to providing opportunity. See potential for impacts to steelhead. (whitefish rules could address this)
