 • Steelhead
Rule to Change:
WILD STEELHEAD RETENTION RULES: one wild STEELHEAD per license year may be retained from one of the following rivers: Bogachiel River, Calawah River, Clearwater River, Dickey River, Hoh River, Quillayute River, Quinault River, or Sol Duc River, as listed in the special rules.
New Rule Proposal:
No retention of wild steelhead. All Catch and Release, single barbless hook, no bait, on all WA rivers.
Why the change is needed:
Not enough enforcement. No one is filling out their punch card unless they see an enforcement officer at the takeout or where they are fishing. Keep killing fish until they have to fill out their card. At this point every wild fish taken is a factor in the species survival. Every year the numbers of wild steelhead are declining and on a downward path.
