Rules Category: Eastern Washington and Columbia Region Freshwater
Species covered in proposed rule • Trout
Rule to Change: Statewide daily limit
New Rule Proposal: Selective gear rules.
Daily limit one.
No min. size
Seasonal lake
Why the change is needed: Big Buck Lake Okanogan Co.
It is an amazing fisheries. We have caught 4 year old fish up to 7/8 pounds. Without special rules there are few fish left to overwinter and grow large. Also this is a small lake, not well known and not a real tourist draw. With special rules this lake would draw fly fisherman from around the state. Besides the fish taste really bad out of this lake. Everyone talks about smoking them but it does not improve the flavor.

Periodic winterkills make this lake tough to manage as a selective gear, quality fishery. Further, this lake is popular with both local and nonlocal anglers who wish to harvest the statewide daily bag limt of 5 trout.

APPLEBEE, MARK September 28, 2012 TWSIP, WA Comments: thank you for your reply. it is true this lake does freeze out approximatly every 5 or 6 years from my experience and I have lived here for 32 years. I also have never caught fish anywhere near the size these fish atain in the local eastern washington and or british columbia lakes I've visited over the years except two lakes in B.C. and that was years ago. It is my understanding that a few of the special regulation lakes freeze out from time to time, like Buzzard lake, Chopaka (possibly) and Washburn lake etc. I believe these shallower lakes that produce large amoynts of food for fish are suseptible to freeze out. I don't really see the difference between periodical freeze out and anglers killing all the fish for there freezers later to be dicarded. themake up of the silt, soil or mud makes these fish taste terrible anyway. I believ e it is every fishermans dream to catch a 3 or 4 pound trout and in this lake that is possible. We caught fish 7/8 lbs. 4years old.perfectlaketocha
