New Rule Proposal: Eliminate the Grays Harbor control zone and let fishermen fish as long as area 2 is open
Why the change is needed: With the price of everything going through the roof and people struggling to make ends meet it is important to increase near shore fish catching opportunities. Gas is very expensive running 10, 20 miles off shore to catch fish is becoming financially impossible for many people who love to fish. Never mind the gas to get from the major metropolitan areas to Westport to begin with.
This area was open to fishing opportunity for years before somebody decided to close it.
The world is changing if you wish to keep selling licenses you have to face the realities of life today.

Salmon, goes through the North of Falcon process This proposal deals with salmon. Salmon seasons are set through the Pacific Fisheries Management Council/North of Falcon process. This process adopts a cohesive set of rules for sport and commercial salmon fisheries, from ocean fisheries to those inside Puget Sound including freshwater fisheries each year during March and April.
Your proposal will be provided to the manager(s) responsible for this species so that it can be considered during the appropriate rulemaking process.

LANIER, KEVIN September 21, 2012 BURIEN, WA Comments: Even though this subject is not being considered i would like to comment. The defining of a marine area is still the descresion of the state. This Area is in area 2 and should be consider as such. The submitter is completely correct and just because something was put in place for a temporary protection measure it should not become the "Rule" for years to come. Ocean area opportunities are limited to the small boat fisherman and this is a safe area for them to fish
