Rule to Change: Bank only fishing area Drano Lake
New Rule Proposal: Although the "Bank fishing only" area is an excellent and well recieved idea it desparately needs to be improved.The area is way too small and needs to be expanded.There are still too many conflicts with the boat fishers who continuosly fish inside the boundry.
Why the change is needed: There is far too little bank area to fish. The Big White is now gone for Spring Chinook fishing and up to 60 bank fishers are crowded on some mornings in this area. The marker on the bridge abutment needs to be moved about 150 ft to the East and then a line drawn perpendicular to the North bank to establish the new boundry line. It is a small change but it has monumental positives. RE:
1)It takes the boats out of bank casting range.
2)It provides additional space for bank anglers.
3)It creates a safer and more serene area to take our kids.
4)It does not infringe on the boat area to fish on Drano.
5)It literally has the support of boat and bank fishers alike.
6)It allows the use of the North and South bank without the existing(and dangerous) confrontation that continues to exist.
7)The boats would not be able to "fudge" the line to the extent that they now do and still be in range of most bask casters.
8)I want to be able to take my kids where there is no conflict or foul language.
Names of individuals or groups with whom you have discussed this change: John Weinheimer WDFW together with dozens of both bank and boat concerned fishermen.John is fully aware and very knowledgable on the problems at the site.
Describe their support and/or concerns:
General support with the caveat that it is too small in scope.Many believe it would also inhance the number of fish that would more readily enter the lake without the intense boat traffic. it would also help with the counter clockwise movement that is imperative for a harmonious fishery.This has gone on for years and it is time to stop this lunacy.
