Rule to Change: Snohomish River (850) First Saturday in June to Jan. 1 for steelhead trout.
New Rule Proposal: Last week in May to Jan. 31st
Why the change is needed: To give more opportunity to catch hatchery fish. You keep taking away the end of the season to protect so-called native fish, so why not open the season earlier (case in point). Look at the good catch at Reiter on Opening Day. June 1st.
Names of individuals or groups with whom you have discussed this change: Numerous fishermen on middle Snohomish.
Describe their support and/or concerns:
They would also like an earlier opening.

WDFW Rule Proposal Recommendation
Not Recommended for further consideration Reference ID: DFW327431
The stream strategy approach has been adopted to protect wild steelhead at all life stages. At this time, an earlier opener does not meet steelhead conservation needs for this river.
