Rule to Change: Statewide Trout Rules. In lakes, ponds, and reservoirs: No min. size. Daily limit 5.
New Rule Proposal: Reduce daily limit to 2 or 3.
Why the change is needed: This change would encourage recreational fishing throughout the spring and summer. For example, on Padden Lake in Bellingham, the state plants 20,000 to 30,000 trout for opening day. After just a week or so, most of the trout has been caught. Reducing the daily limit might attract more families to visit during summer months if they know there are still fish to be caught.

Five fish is the preferred number for most trout anglers. Reducing the bag limit would not increase angler participation, and many would see this as taking away from their experience rather than an extension of the fishery's duration.
