Rule to Change: NORTHERN PIKE Statewide; No min size. No daily limit. No possession limit. Must be dead before being removed from riparian area (immediate vicinity of water body).
New Rule Proposal: NORTHERN PIKE Statewide; No min size. No daily limit. No possession limit. Must be dead before being removed from riparian area (immediate vicinity of water body). NORTHERN PIKE may also be taken by spear or bow-and-arrow.
Why the change is needed: This rule change will result in increased opportunity for harvest of northern pike in Box Canyon and Boundary reservoirs via the use of spear and bow-and-arrow. The increased harvest of northern pike is recommended in order to decrease their abundance, thereby benefitting native fish and other game fishes in the Pend Oreille River. Allowing use of spear and bow-and-arrow for northern pike could result in increased revenue for the Department.

Not Recommended for further consideration Reference ID: DFW660153
Recommend that we not move forward with this proposal at this time. Recommend that we first evaluate Northern Pike control efforts and then assess if spear fishing and bow and arrow fishing are appropriate harvest methods.
