Rule to Change: All game fish Apr. 1-Fri before first Sat.in June catch-and-release except up to 2 steelhead may be retained. Selective gear rule intemal combustion motor prohibited Washougal River
New Rule Proposal: Propose to do away with selective gear fishery and make the date the !st of June the way it used to be.
Why the change is needed: We have had a fish checker the last two season I beleive we should use the data he has and get bait and barbed hooks back. We have had surplus of fish since this selective gear was put in place it makes no sence to recycle fish two and three times. If we had are bait back those fish could be caught the first time up the river. With the cost of fuel dose it make sence to recycle fish back down the two and three time?
Names of individuals or groups with whom you have discussed this change: Ron Reeves(fish checker) Joe Hymer WDFW
Describe their support and/or concerns:
They both are in favor of deleting the selective gear restriction.

The current rule allows for retention of hatchery summer steelhead with selective gear rules(SGR). If SGR rules are removed this fishing season would have to be elimintaed because of potential impacts to outmigrating wild salmon, steelhead smolts, and adult wild winter steelhead.
