Species covered in proposed rule • Marine Bottomfish
Rule to Change: Open May 10-19, 2 days per week Thursday and Saturday
New Rule Proposal: Open May 10-19, 2 days per week Friday and Saturday
Why the change is needed: Myself and many of my friends drive from the Kitsap area all the way out to the coast to fish halibut (Westport, Neah Bay and La Push). With there being a day between fishing days many of us are forced make the drive twice a week. Doubling fuel costs, exhaust release, road wear, and traffic congestion reducing highway safety increasing the possibly that people will lose their lives.
Changing to consecutive fishing days would allow sportsmen and women to stay one night and fish two days. This would reduce by half the pollutions, increase highway safety and help Washingtonians who are enduring economic hard times.
Your time and consideration in this matter is greatly appreciated.
