Rule to Change: Dungeness Crab, Area 8-1, 8-2 Open July 1-Sept. 3, Thur. through Mon. only.
New Rule Proposal: Add, open for ring trap only May 24 to July 1
Why the change is needed: It is a long wait to July 1, and then it is a fiasco with such a short season. There is not much opportunity for recreational fishing in June. I generally start my boating season Memorial Day holiday weekend. This would also help the economy with recreational dollars

WDFW Rule Proposal Recommendation
Not Recommended for further consideration Reference ID: DFW868651
On October 1, 2010, the commission adopted revisions to the Puget Sound Crab Policy (policy C-3609) that specifically identifies the dates and days that recreational crab are allowed during the summer months. The summer recreational crab season as defined in the policy opens the fishery on July 1 and allows crabbing for all gear types Thursday through Monday of each week until Labor Day. In February of 2011 permanent regulations were adopted into law that implement the Commission’s July through Labor Day crab season. Modifying the recreational crab season dates to include openings prior to July 1 would be a departure from the Commission’s policy and therefore not a viable option at this time.
