Rule Change Recommendation Short Title
# 19. Extend Okanogan River game fish season

 • See comments

Rules Category
Eastern Washington and Columbia Region Freshwater

Type of Rule Change Proposal
Recreational

County or Location Information
Okanogan County

Short Description
Extend the game fish season for the area upstream of the highway bridge at Malott to September 15.

Explanation
Recent permanent rule changes for salmon on the Okanogan River closes the season on Sept 15. It would be consistent with the salmon closure to close the "all other game fish" season at the same time (Sept 15th) to allow non-salmon anglers to fish this section of the river as well.

FISHER, CHRISTOPHER J  October 08, 2012

Comments:
I support the proposed regulation. WDFW should consider liberalizing bag limits on non-native species in this river, particulalry smallmouth bass which likely have significant predation rates upon sub-yearling summer chinook salmon migrants

Comments:
The harvest of bass, walleye, whitefish, etc (in other words, all fish other than trout) should be permitted during any steelhead season. Selective gear rules only for all species.

Please pass rule # 19.

it would be fair and wise to have both close at the same time.
