Rule Change Recommendation Short Title
• See comments Rules Category Puget Sound Region Freshwater Type of Rule Change Proposal Recreational County or Location Information Pierce County Short Description Eliminate this lake as an opening day water and make it a year-round fishery.
Explanation In 2011, WDFW adipose clipped the catchable rainbow trout stocked into Ohop Lake to determine if fish were entraining out of the lake into the Nisqually River. Shortly after being stocked, adipose clipped rainbow trout were detected at the downstream smolt trap in the Nisqually River. In 2012, WDFW increased the mean size of the rainbow trout stocked into Ohop Lake in an attempt to reduce entrainment. No hatchery fish were detected at the downstream trap in 2012. Because larger fish are more expensive, WDFW will not be able to stock larger fish at a high enough density to reach the harvest goal desired for lakes managed with trout for opening day. This change will also increase the opportunity for fall and winter trout and warmwater fishing in South Sound. Original Rule Proposal Number(s) DFW705682

CARVER SR, RUSSELL L November 29, 2012 LAKETAPPS, WA Comments: Please pass rule #44 ASHE, KEVIN December 08, 2012 DARRINGTON, WA Comments: yes MCDONALD, ROB December 20, 2012 PUYALLUP, WA Comments: in the past when the lake was open year-round, there were far more winter time burgleries and breakins on non year round residences.people would go along the lakeshore by boat ,spot a vacant residence and load the boat ,so to speak. I do NOT reccomend changing. REYNOLDS, MARTY December 23, 2012 TACOMA, WA Comments: ohop lake boat ramp and parking lot is a gathering place for unlawfull things..drugs .. theft etc !! the dept of fishery has not and cannot maintain this boat ramp ...when it is opened now ... litter on the lake increases with more boat volume .. theft of personel property increases also when the boat ramp is opened !!! do not open this lake up year around .. PETERS, JIMMIE January 08, 2013 TACOMA, WA Comments: Should be converted
