Rule Change Recommendation Short Title
Updated 10/18/2012 • See comments Rules Category Puget Sound Region Freshwater Type of Rule Change Proposal Recreational County or Location Information Whatcom County Short Description UPDATED: Change seasons to not allow fishing from a floating device until January 28th -- to coincide with the closing date of waterfowl hunting season.
Explanation Balance opportunity for water fowl and fishing. Fazon Lake is a 32 acre lake with 6 duck blinds & one DFW access launch. Fishers in a boat or floating device cause ducks to flare or leave because of sight exposure. Original Rule Proposal Number(s) DFW695389 DFW951043
YOUNG, SETH A October 08, 2012 MT VERNON, WA Comments: I believe fishers in a boat on these lakes should also be hunting, if not actively engaged in a waterfowl hunt then no fishing. Fishing only should be allowed after waterfowl season as a matter of safety for both hunting parties and fishing parties. BORDERLINE BASSIN CONTENDERS, ROBERT HARRIMAN October 15, 2012 BELLINGHAM, WA Comments: this proposal was submitted by Borderline originally years ago and this would be an update to that. Last year during late part of season conflicts began again due to fishing update was not coincided with hunting waterfowl closing dates. Fishing is still open year round but just restricted from floating device till end of waterfowl season. Safety is first issue here and harrasment second. The same issues occur with Tenant Lake. We are very appreciative the Dept considered these update changes and thanks the DFW for doing so.
Thanks for the Dedication

Fazon Lake Services CARVER SR, RUSSELL L November 29, 2012 LAKETAPPS, WA Comments: Please pass rule#46 it is only fair to the hunterstoalso be respected during their short season. BUNCH, WENDELL December 07, 2012 OAK HARBOR, WA Comments: This makes perfect sense and as sportsman who share a resource we need to be mindful of other users BUNCH, WENDELL December 07, 2012 OAK HARBOR, WA Comments: This makes perfect sense and as sportsman who share a resource we need to be mindful of other users BORDERLINE BASSIN CONTENDERS, ROBERT HARRIMAN January 14, 2013 BELLINGHAM, WA Comments: Our club is a sponsor of this proposal and of coarse in favor. We are both a hunting club & fishing club. Our club has a long history on this lake and also Tenant lake. We helped the Dept set up fishing & hunting seasons along w/helped transplant most of the warm water fish starts through guidance and permits. We are as concerned in both areas to fishing & hunting needs. Fazon is open year round per our requests over 20 years ago, but during those years we also advocated closing fishing from a floating device during waterfowl seasons for harrassment & safety measures. Please note the lake is still open from shore during the waterfowl seasons.
Please vote in favor of this proposal.
Thanks for your dedication to the fish & wildlife resources.
Sincerely,
Bob Harriman, legis liaison
Borderline Bassin Contenders FAZON LAKE SERVICES, GAIL HARRIMAN January 14, 2013 BELLINGHAM, WA Comments: I own a boat rental business on Fazon Lake which also includes a Duck blind lease also on Fazon Lake Services property. Our business is in favor for safety & also harrassment reasons for my clients.
I would appreciate both client styles getting along with each other on the water.
Please vote in favor of the proposal.
thanks

Fazon Lake Services FRIEND, STEPHEN January 28, 2013 SHORELINE, WA Comments: I agree with this proposal. CLINE, JACK T January 29, 2013 MAPLE FALLS, WA Comments: SAFETY FIRST. LAWS ARE TO PROTECT PEOPLE AND GAME. People should not be allowed to show up in a fishing boat at our duck blind due to their safety. It has happened in years past and the game warden could not help either side because of contradicting laws. Thank you from FAZON LAKE
