Rule Change Recommendation Short Title
• See comments Rules Category Eastern Washington and Columbia Region Freshwater Type of Rule Change Proposal Conservation County or Location Information Skamania County Short Description Open hatchery steelhead angling on the White Salmon River from the county road bridge below the former powerhouse to Northwestern Lake Road Bridge and require selective gear rules.
Explanation Condit Dam on the White Salmon River was breached in the fall of 2011 and salmonids now access the upper river. There has been a closure to fishing around the dam area due to safety concerns while the structure was being removed, In 2013 the area will be back open to the public. This regulation opens that area to sport fishing under selective gear rules and allows the retention of hatchery steelhead. These rules protect spawning salmonids as they recolonize this new area. TACHELL, JONATHAN T October 08, 2012 GIG HARBOR, WA Comments: I am in favor of this proposal and all others that provide more angling opportunities for steelhead in washington especially under selective gear rule regulations. ALLEN, DANIEL S October 11, 2012 UNDERWOOD, WA Comments: I suggest doing this and also consider the river above the nw lake bridge during the winter months. Without the dam, there is no reason to close the river arbitrarily at the old reservoir. Perhaps at bz falls or big brother?
Winter steelhead fishing on the White Salmon is very popular. LEY, COLIN R November 26, 2012 SEATTLE, WA Comments: I support this rule proposal. CARVER SR., RUSSELL L November 29, 2012 LAKETAPPS, WA Comments: Please pass rule #39
