Rule Change Recommendation Short Title
Updated 10/18/2012 • See comments Rules Category Eastern Washington and Columbia Region Freshwater Type of Rule Change Proposal Conservation County or Location Information Walla Walla County Short Description UPDATED: Clarify the wording for the upper zone of the Walla Walla River as follows: Walla Walla tributaries from the Touchet River to the Oregon border are closed, with the exception of Mill Creek and the Touchet River.” Explanation Removes the need for separate listings of Yellowhawk Creek, Cottonwood Creek, East Little Walla Walla and Dry Creek as closed waters and clears up any uncertainty regarding other small tributaries in the upper zone of the Walla Walla River as to whether they are open or closed. These small tributaries are closed to protect them as production areas for ESA listed steelhead juveniles. Some of these streams are spring fed and are likely rearing areas for juvenile steelhead. Trout in these streams are from natural production of juvenile steelhead. Original Rule Proposal Number(s) DFW455103
MERRILL, RICK October 08, 2012 RICHLAND, WA Comments: How is this "clarifying"? This change would close the Walla Walla to fishing from the Touchet to the state line, while the current regulation allows fishing in the main river. Fishing is also currently allowed in Dry Creek up to the Lower Waitsburg Road. You have either worded the clarification very poorly or are deceitfully trying to sneak another stream closure by the sportsmen of the state. This proposal should be titled "Close upper section of Walla Walla River and tributaries to all fishing" CARVER SR., RUSSELL L November 29, 2012 LAKETAPPS, WA Comments: Please pass rule # 11 CARVER SR., RUSSELL L November 29, 2012 LAKETAPPS, WA Comments: Please pass rule # 11 DALAN, DAVID F November 30, 2012 WALLA WALLA, WA Comments: Great rule change, making anything less complicated is a good thing :)
