ESA-listed Hood Canal Summer Chum Salmon: A brief update on supplementation programs, natural-origin vs. supplementation-origin returns, and recovery
This paper provides an update on Hood Canal summer chum recovery activities through 2006, with an emphasis on the performance of supplementation programs, the natural-origin vs. supplementation-origin composition of the adult returns, an overview of how well performance standards established in the Summer Chum Salmon Conservation Initiative have been met, and an assessment of progress towards recovery.

Summer Chum Salmon Conservation Initiative (SCSCI) Report Series
The SCSCI is a recovery plan applying to all summer-timed chum salmon returning to streams in Hood Canal and the eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca.

SCSCI An Implementation Plan to Recover Summer Chum in the Hood Canal and Strait of Juan de Fuca Region
Complete April 2000 report.
Supplemental Report No. 1 - Revised Estimates of Escapement for Hood Canal and Strait of Juan de Fuca Natural Spawning Summer Chum Salmon Populations
A brief review of anadromous salmonid escapement estimation methodologies used by WDFW, a description of the rating system developed for the revised escapement estimates, a review of the historical survey effort expended for summer chum salmon in the Hood Canal summer chum ESU, and a presentation and discussion of the revised and new estimates for the 1968 to 1998 return years.
Supplemental Report No. 2 - Public Review Comments on Draft Habitat Sections of the Summer Chum Salmon Conservation Initiative
Public comments on a 1999 draft habitat section of the SCSCI report. Public comments were reviewed by PNPT Tribes and WDFW biologists to and used to improve the SCSCI plan.
SCSCI Supplemental Report No. 3 - Annual Report for the 2000 Summer Chum Salmon Return to the Hood Canal and Strait of Juan de Fuca Region
First annual report required by the SCSCI, reporting updated data through the 2000 return, including escapement, runsize, harvest, and biological data, and updates on supplementation projects, extinction risks, and ecological interactions.

SCSCI Supplemental Report No. 4 - Report on Summer Chum Salmon Stock Assessment and Management Activities for 2001 and 2002
Second annual report in SCSCI series, reporting updated data through the 2002 return and corrections to older data. Appendices to this report also include results of summer chum genetic studies and harbor seal predation studies.

SCSCI Supplemental Report No. 5 - Interim Summer Chum Salmon Recovery Goals
Establishes specific interim recovery goals for Hood Canal and Strait of Juan de Fuca summer chum stocks based on abundance, productivity, and diversity.

SCSCI Supplemental Report No. 6 - Protocols For Summer Chum Salmon Supplementation Recovery Projects
Presents specific protocols for conducting a science-based artificial production and monitoring project for the recovery of a summer chum salmon stock.
SCSCI Supplemental Report No. 7 - Five-Year Review of the Summer Chum Salmon Conservation Initiative
Review of summer chum data between the last year included in the SCSCI (1998), and 2004. Includes detailed review of 2003 and 2004 data. Although six years are reviewed, the report meets the requirements for the five-year review, following the provisions under section 3.6.3 of the SCSCI.
