The State of Washington
received a total of 11 Intent Forms by December 7, 2005 that indicated
intent to apply for a 2006 Cooperative Endangered Species Conservation
Fund federal grant for land acquisition. Nine projects were submitted
for consideration under the HCP Land Acquisition grant program, and two
projects were submitted for consideration under the Recovery Land Acquisition
grant program. A brief summary of each follows below.
The U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service, Washington Department of Natural Resources, and Washington
Department of Fish and Wildlife have reviewed the Intent Forms and will
gather more information about these potential projects during the first
two months of 2006.
Each state agency
will determine which potential projects it will sponsor in the 2006 grant
cycle. A detailed grant proposal for each sponsored project will then
be submitted to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Lacey office by February
10, 2006. After interagency review and evaluation, sponsored projects
will continue on to regional and national competition.
We anticipate that
some of these potential projects will be selected for a federal grant
award by October 1, 2006. All land acquisitions that result, can only
be made from willing sellers, for fair market value, based on current
appraisals.

Proposal: Purchase 200 acres of estuarine wetlands to benefit eulachon,
bald eagles, peregrine falcons, bull trout, marbled murrelets, salmon
