Can I have pet fish or wildlife that are native to Washington State?
No. It is illegal to hunt or possess protected native fish or wildlife or species classified as endangered or protected in Washington (WAC 232-12-011). See WAC 232-12-064.
However, there are certain non-native species found in Washington that are not protected by state or federal regulation that a person can possess for specific purposes other than as a pet. For instance, starlings, house sparrows, and rock doves may be possessed for purposes of falconry; and rock doves for purposes of bird dog training (WAC 232-12-005).
