If a person is granted a one-year hunter education deferral, can they apply for special permit hunts?

  • No. Individuals receiving a hunter education deferral may hunt during general seasons for the license year they were granted the deferral, but they are not eligible to apply for any special permit hunts.
  • However, a person who is granted a one-year hunter education deferral may apply for a multi-season deer or elk tag for general seasons. But the hunter education deferral and hunting license must be obtained prior to the deadline for submittal of applications for multi-season deer and/or elk general season tags.
  • And a person may apply for special permits for goat, sheep, or moose during open application periods, but only if using ghost hunt choice numbers and only prior to being granted a one-year hunter education deferral.
