What if coyotes are killing my domestic livestock?
If coyotes are damaging crops or domestic animals the owner, owner’s immediate family members, owner’s documented employees, or tenants of the real property on which the damage is occurring may kill or trap coyotes on that property. A hunting license is not required in such cases (RCW 77.36.030, WAC 232-36-051). The animal carcass may not be retained. Be aware of legal shooting areas.
A special trapping permit is required to use any traps other than live traps (RCW 77.15.192, 77.15.194; WAC 232-12-142). There are no exceptions for emergencies and no provisions for verbal approval.
