Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife

Can I discharge a firearm or hunt anywhere in the state once I buy a hunting license?

No. Most hunting seasons are restricted by area. To find an open hunting season, review the hunting regulations and seasons page on the WDFW website and read through the relevant hunting pamphlet. The hunting seasons and regulations webpage can be found at http://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/regulations/.

Many portions of the state have No Shooting or Firearm Restriction Zones, such as the Interstate 5 corridor in western Washington. Special rules also apply inside state parks, federal parks, Indian reservations, and within the incorporated portions of many cities.

You must also respect private property rights. Find out more about private land access by visiting the WDFW website at http://wdfw.wa.gov/hunting/hunting_access/private_lands/.
