Notice to Potential Dungeness Elk Hunt Applicants:

There are two permit hunts available to Master Hunter applicants in the Sequim area in 2009. All potential applicants are encouraged to review the following information prior to applying.

  • The hunts are damage control hunts. Hunters may or may not be called to hunt during the season.
  • Hunting is allowed only after hunters are contacted by a Hunt Master. The Hunt Master will arrange a date and time to hunt. Notice may be as little as one day.
  • Hunting is limited to small parcels of private land.
  • Hunters may not contact land owners to secure permission to hunt. All permission must be secured by the Hunt Master.
  • The hunts are strictly managed by a Hunt Master. The Hunt Master has ultimate responsibility and authority for managing the hunts.
  • The only allowable method of hunting is by shotgun shooting slugs. Shotguns must be 12 or 10 gauge. Hunters without slug shotgun experience and competencies may wish to consider other hunts.
  • Hunting is often done within sight of the public. It is essential that all hunters follow strict safety and ethical guidelines in order to minimize potentially adverse publicity from the hunts.
