Note: Not all WDFW Recreational Access Area Sites (boat launches) are open throughout the year. Some sites are open only during hunting and fishing seasons. Closures are necessary to comply with land owner agreements, and to manage limited maintenance funds. Please contact the nearest Regional Office for more information on scheduled closures.

About Vehicle Use Permit

Some water access sites in the Eastern Washington region are maintained under the “Adopt An Access” program by volunteer groups.

The Silver Lake access site in Spokane County has been adopted by the “Education and Commitment to our Outdoors” Foundation, (ECO Foundation), a private, non-profit group based in Cheney. Led by Tony Jamerson, Deb Pittack and David Raney, the group provides clean up and maintenance of public lands and promotes education about waste management, recycling, the “pack-it-in-pack-it-out” ideology, and overall care and respect for the environment. Eco Foundation volunteers joined WDFW’s Adopt An Access program in 2005 and completed a major clean-up at the Silver Lake access site in August. See before and after pictures of their work at Silver Lake, and more information about joining or supporting the group, at the website linked above.

Other Adopt An Access maintenance is provided at Pend Oreille County’s Davis Lake by Gene Fitzpatrick and other fellow lakeside homeowners, and at Stevens County’s Waitts Lake by Just International.

Anyone interested in creating an Adopt An Access agreement with WDFW can contact Steve Sherlock at 360-902-2375 or sherlses@dfw.wa.gov.
